Pool Complex at Brookberry Farm

WINSTON-SALEM, NC

In addition to the Village Center, Acanthus designed the buildings surrounding the pool and lake at the Brookberry Farm development, an 800-acre planned community built on a former working farm estate. Emphasis was placed on carefully integrating the structures with the water features in order to incorporate the pool complex into the landscape.

The buildings provide an architectural framework for the pool itself and diverse spaces for other activities. As with the Village, Acanthus utilized simple forms with well-crafted details to create structures that not only satisfy the functional program but establish a distinctive character and sense of place. The entrance building houses the snack bar and storage, a bath house contains changing rooms and showers, and a third building conceals the filtration system. Four open pavilions near the pool and a screened lakeside pavilion with fireplace offer residents places either to gather or to relax in peaceful solitude.
